Bray Harbour 28-01-10

Fri Jan 29, 2010 5:44 pm

People:me and Fishface

Duration:6-30pm - 10-30pm

Tide:rising, high at 10pm approx

Weather:not bad, cold but rain kept off

Bait:lug,mack,squid, earthworms

Rigs:2 hook flappers, single hook clipped down

Results:me; 5 x rockling, 3 x coalies, 1 x Dab, 3 x whiting, 4 x codling
Fishface; 1 x rockling (very small)

Report:Wasnt going to do a report from Bray Harbour again as i was afraid the Council would start charging me rent but Fishface had such poor results that i decided "what the hell, I might as well"  I brought some juicy earthworms as I had got some while cleaning out a compost bay at work but they were to prove useless  . I had just cast out when a strange figure came down the pier in a Yellow hat and Bright green Jacket  . "Its a bit early for St Patricks Day", i thought to meself,,,,,,,,,,but you often meet strange characters on this pier  ,,,,,,,,,it turned out to be Fishface who had forgotten his Imax suit. He reversed his car down the pier and set up so he could sit in the boot out of the cold breeze. I got a small coalie ,followed by a 5 beard rockling who dropped off just as he reached the pier  .I was using lug tipped with mack and i got a succession of fish and was soon at number 7  . Strange thing was that Fishface hadnt a bite   . After an hour or so he started to complain about the cold but i knew that he was getting nervous about the dreaded blank and looking for an excuse to head home  . He went off down the pier to show everyone the Petzl ultra and how good and bright it was , he even lit up the other pier, startling some anglers who were fishing there without lights   . Typical of his knack of pulling something out of the bag, he reeled in a (small) 5 beard rockling , jumped for joy, packed up and went home. He ruined the end of my report where he was to have a BLANK   . I had a chat with some of the guys on the pier and it turned into a sort of SAI mini meet, with myself, The Codfather and Corbiere present. It turned out to be a good night, with us missing the rain which seemed to be falling everywhere else. I had a couple of doubles as we hit the HW mark, getting 16 fish altogether,5 species, including dab, codling, whiting rockling and coalie. Corbiere seemed to be especially impressed with the fightin whitin. My carriage returned at 10-30pm (shes getting very good at reversing down the pier  ), and i said goodbye to the lads and headed home. I only took a few pics and forgot to take one of Fishface so i hope this simple drawing of him will suffice, and please, please,,,,,,,,,,,,no backslapping or false praise

Good session guys, your getting them in rightly now Dave!
Love your picture of Neil (Fish Face) but I bet it's not half as good as the real thing was!
It's not nice being cold though so I am sure that without his Imax suit he was pretty cold :(

well im glad to hear that someone understands that when you only have light trousers and a useless jacket that fishing in the cold is not good for one(thanks kerry1), dont know your real name sorry  as for eyes he just would have lov ed for me to blank, i blame the wicklow lug that i dug, the fish in bray just dont have good taste, i think he is turning into a course angler with his garden worms. will have to get myself a proper sea-angling pal to go out fishing with , the next thing is boilies and sweetcorn, how embarressing having to fish with someone like that. iv a reputation to live up to

Dont blame the poor Wicklow Lug, cos i got a couple of doubles with the ones you left me when you scarpered off the pier   (and i thought the boy racers in Arklow south were bad  ). As for the garden worms, i'll try anything i'm not proud,,,,,,and your reputation is intact, in fact you really lived up to it that night, bring a hot water bottle with you next time
.

Hi Neil, my real name is Paula.
I do understand what it must have been like to be freezing while out fishing, it's not nice at all and it's made worse with people making fun of you, people who are supposed to be your friends too
That Dave one is a real wind-up merchant isn't he  it must be hard trying to fish with him. I wouldn't get any fishing done with him about, I would be laughing so much all the time or looking over my shoulder every five minutes wondering what he's up to and what stunt he's gonna pull next!

  Dave! Dave! Dave!, what can I say! It's not very often a women is lost for words but on this occasion I very nearly am and the reason is because I can't get any out for laughing so much! That second picture you put up is very, very, very funny! Poor Neil  Just when I think you can't get any worse you pop up with something else to prove me wrong!

You 2 surely cant get any worse, But really folks the hat has to be seen in real life let alone the jacket and trousers??? Good on ya Dave on tryin the worms and go for the sweetcorn, boilies etc. With Neil always catching so little and this being a lean time of year you would think he would try something different. Cracker report, love the pics.
