Cobh, The Old Baths, Weds 20th Jan

Mon Jan 25, 2010 12:10 am

People:Me

Duration:18:15pm - 22:15pm

Tide:HT 20:23pm (3.8m)

Weather:SE6 – SE13mph, clear at first, cloud building, 9.5C

Bait:Fresh Peeler Crab, Lugworm, and Shrimp

Rigs:1 Hk Pulley, 2 Hk Pats

Results: 14 codling (25 - 36cm); 1 whiting (25cm)

Report:After having such a good session the other night at the old Baths I decided to give it another go. Eventhough, there was an easterly breeze the fishing wasn't bad. Clipping down my crab baits, I lashed the end rig as far as I could. Bites were fairly frequent during the night but tailed off towards high tide. My best fish at 36cms was the first fish of the night  .

Danny called over for a chat half way through and brought over some big shrimp as bait. With that I switched to a 2 hk pat baiting the top hook with shrimp. I reckoned it would work as all the fish were coughing up the remains of some whitefish which resembled the shrimp in size. First cast with this and I had a double! The shrimp worked :D .

Below are a few pics of the better fish. It still looks good for the 2cnd Cork Harbour Light Line comp on Sun 14th Feb. Should be still plenty of fish about....pencil yourself in  .

Nice fish Pat. Interesting one about the shrimp. Probably a stupid question but was it just supermarket stuff? Might be a handy supplement when there is no mussel. I'll be shot adding bait to the supermarket bill!

Danny got them down at the fishmongers....they were fresh and big buggers. I only used two and frooze down the rest for use some other time.
