People:me,goldwing,jason, and frosty the dog!

Duration:2pm -8pm

Tide:high 7.11pm

Weather:stormy sw wind but no rain.

Bait:lug,mack,blueies,squid

Rigs:all types

Results:went to keel beach in achill on the hunt for codling, got there and there was a storm blowing stright into our faces,we set up as there was a great surf, but that surf f****d things up, as we could not get the grippers to grip! also there was a huge ammount of weed!after a few hours with not a sign of a fish we switched to plan b,and went to a local pier to see could we up the species count,we cast out and it was a fish a cast after that, mostly coalies, but with the odd small pollock thrown in, and john got a three bearded rockling as well. He also got the biggest coalie,43cm,most of the others were between 26 and 32cm,gave up when the waves started coming over the wall, anyway it was time for coffee! so one new species for me.two for john and two for jason.anybody know a way to stop the bloody dog eating our bait?? :D sorry,no pics, i forgot to take any

best way of stopping the dog is a bucket with a lid if that fails everytime he goes near the bait throw him in to the water
he will soon learn to associate the bait with a soaking

anybody know a way to stop the bloody dog eating our bait??

Once when I was fishing a beach near Ardmore in Waterford, a holidaymaker's yappy terrier ran into the water and grabbed the bait+hook as I was hauling in. I'd say that cured its graw for fish all right. Still wondering if I can claim it as a species....?

I had the same think on Saturday - superb surf, thought there might be a chance of a cod, but within minutes the line was being dragged down the beach and collecting weed along the way

Fairplay for getting out in that weather! Its a pain when the weed/current drags your line down the beach. When this is happening I usually try wrapping an elastic band around the weight itself a few times, then intertwine it around the grips, just above the locking beads. Have found that the rig holds position or at least slows the movement down. It can make retrieval a bit harder though.
