fishing was slow very slow it took about 45mins-1hour before we had landed a fish the first fish of the night was a small codling followed by a conger on rag worm then a pout then nothing for about 30-45 mins then a little flury of small fish patk left at about half 9 i stayed on for another hour only to get another pout and 2 more small codling

i fished there saturday night and had 2 codling and a tiny pin whiting. also had a good take just down the side of the wall but my 15lb line snapped when trying to get it out of a snag

there was plenty of people there including one guy with a bucket of fish so "big" a cat would need 5 for its dinner. one or 2 in the bucket around the 25cm mark but the rest were small.
there was another couple of guys there who told me they had no fish but tried to hide a tesco bag when i asked what they caught. i then asked what was in the bag and they said " no fish here, must move places" and grabbed their rods and walked off.

pretty disgusting really. i fished there a good few times last year and had some pretty good whiting with lots of dogs and the odd small conger. its a nice comfy spot but meeting fellas like that turns me off heading back down.

ya i agree there was an oldish bloke down there last night and he had 6 codling and 6 whiting all about half to 3/4 of a pound an he keeped them all its a shame really i mean theres not going to be much meat on them after you fillet them it was strange not to get a doggie there last night but i think the fishing was poor because there was some seals swimming around us all night we only caught when the seals went up the other end then it stoped when they appered then started again when they went it whent on all night like that

There seem to be alot of seals around the harbour in the last few weeks. Cobh is especially bad for them. I caught fish while they were around last week but i was afraid one of them would swallow my rig as i was bringing the fish in close. I think the doggies are probly gone into much deeper water due to the cold. Any large congers will probly have move to deeper off shore water too. Any good size whiting seem to have vacated cobh for some reason too.

Well met jimmy for first time at an east cork beach which was fishable but got very wild and couldnt hold bottom i got one good whack there early but decicded to try somewhere else. .Jimmy suggested here and apart form a couple of small knocks and a crab no good for me well apart from when leaving the cars to start fishing in Cobh I began to try to put my gear under my arm rods rests etc. Then Jimmy handed me a hold all bag from his car and made a gift of it to me. Thanks Jimmy sound man very kind of you and much appreciated enjoyed the night. The fella who came down with the small fish was really proud of " how hard he worked for those codling and whiting" and that they were eating size. I just dont know he was also a thoroughbred Irish man too.

If its where I think you were then glad I didn't head out that way - I was thinking of it - but as the water is probably too cold for bass and cod are very rare there, I headed West Waterford direction. By the way which end of the beach were you fishing? The beach where we fished before Christmas might have been a better option as you get much less of a cross current there.

Yes Jimmy is a sound guy alright - I fished with him early December and he gave me three brand new lures

That beach can be bad for weed alright - if there is a big surf it can be difficult to fish - the surf usually decreases to the west - so the next beach along would probably have been easier to fish, especially from the centre to the western end, but there can be a very strong cross-current if there is a strong WSW or westerly wind.

I got a few fish - went to Ardmore and caught 17 fish, mostly small codling, a few whiting, a pouting and a dogfish. I will probably post up a report tomorrow.
