People: Me & Bassmania

Duration: 13.30 to 19.00

Tide: Incoming

Weather: Wild

Bait: Lug, Sandeel & Crab

Rigs: Various

Results: Me 1 Bass & 5 Pollock, Bassmania 6 Pollock

Decided at the last minute to try a mark that we have not tried before, first trip of 2010, set off from Limerick with a slight breeze, strong wind by the time we got to Clare. Stopped off to dig lug, hard to get where we normally find loads. Got to the mark and met a couple of lads that we know. set up with 2 hook rigs on both rods one short and one out at distance. Was talking with the lads when i noticed a knock all of a sudden the rod took a lunge,,,, After a short fight first fish of 2010, a 2.5lb Bass :D :D :D :D :D :D :D At this point i could of gone home :D Got a pat on the back from Bassmania but very certain that i heard his teeth gnashing :D The wind picked up and we had a big surf, hopes were now up. Bassmania took a huge rattle on one of his rods and struck in, fish headed for the rocks and unfortunately he got away :( :( after that the small pollock moved in, they were going for baits that were nearly bigger than themselves   Bassmania lifted one of his rods at one point and felt that he was snagged, pulled on the rod, then we heard a sickening snap sound :( :( Rod broke in half, sickened   we stayed at it for another while and as the surfed picked up we packed up, great session :D :D

Seamus

Nice to get one this early. :) Back when i was a youth (1970s) Clare had plenty bass, but then they seemed to fade away in the 80s/90s. Looks like they're well back again.

What can I say................................. a disaster of a fishing session! All day I had lost only one trace (considering the rocky terrain) and then the rod snapped. I wouldn't mind but I hadn't put much of a bend in the rod, who knows the rod could have taken a hop on a previous outing and I didn't notice ahh, that's the way it goes!

But then it just got worse! off late if Shay cast out from under his leg................ fish on! backwards............. fish on! There is no justice! and as for the journey home, it's hard to think with Limerick right beside Clare it could still take him 4 hours to drive home .....Bass this, Bass that, bast... and we were no where near Ennis!!!

Outside of that it was a good day out, it could have being worse .......... I could have being at home painting
