Report: With the grim weather forecast for the remainder of the week I thought Monday looked like the best opportunity to get out before the end of the year.
I collected a couple of dozen crabs from Bhoy32 (some nice big juicy ones). My plan was to fish Ferrypoint over low tide and then move back to Youghal and fish the quays but the easterly wind had picked up and was blowing strongly across the bay so I didn't fancy fishing the exposed quays and decided to just stick to Ferrypoint.
When I got there two anglers were already fishing. I set up the first rod and cast out the two hook flapper baited with crab. Before I had the chance to finishing setting up the second there was a knock on the first - the first small codling. I rebaited and cast the first rod out again and before I had finished baiting a pennel pulley for the second rod there was another rattle on the first rod - a slightly bigger codling just over 30 cm. The greedy fecker had somehow got both hooks from the flapper into its mouth

It had completely swallowed one hook and was hooked into the gut so although it was much smaller than the minimum size I would normally keep there was no point returning it.
When I cast out the second rod I got a wind knot - there was a strong eastely wind blowing over the gravel bar at this stage. I couldn't get it untangled and had to cut the line and rejoin it. As I was doing that the angler closest to me who had just packed up walked over - it was Marlinman!!
After I had the two segments of line joined I tightened the line and realized there was a fish on the end. It felt heavier and I was hopeful of decent size fish but when I retrived I found two small codling - one was hooked with the main hook of the pennel and the second hook of the pennel had snagged the other fish in the tail.
After recasting I wandered over to the second angler - it was Seanie!!! We had a chat for a while then I went back to check my rods. There was a small codling on each.
A little later I had another codling double on the two hook flapper. The larger fish was just over 30 cm. I had one more after that, the 9th of the session, but the tide was rapidly rising and my lines were getting dragged upstream by the current. Then it started raining so I decided it was time to quit. Seanie was staying on - hoping for a big one.
I had a quick look at Green Park on the way back through Yougal but the conditions looked grim so I headed home to the warmth and a couple of cans.
