Duration:0730-1630
Tide:Rising
Weather:All sorts
Bait:Mack Herring Rag
Rigs:Everything I could throw at them
Results:Coalie Conger Flounder
Report:Set off after work 2am, the weather being cold but pleasant enough. Donegal roads looked whitish but at Barnetts Gap Sleet and snow were falling. Ploughed on having come so far arriving at pier at 0430 and stepped outside to be met by a stiff northerly and the pier like a skating ring.

Back inside to the heat and slept till 0730

and set up rods. 3 rods,2hrs and nothing not even bait tampered with. Rods started to nod 0930, could hardly feel the rod in my hand and in comes a matchbox size green crab.

Better taps on the other rods produced flounder, one making 32cm, the best of the day.
About 1130 moved to Killybegs after talking with 2 lads that work there and they said codling and some decent coalie and pollack were being caught in the harbour and as the gate onto blackrock pier was broken i might get on.
Straight into coalie, taking me on the drop but nothing of any size.

The rod down the side of the pier nodded twice and I hit into it and right away knew it was a conger.

Got the brute to the surface and seeing it was a damn good one let it some slack to tire it, big mistake. The bugger manage to get a grip on something and could'nt be encouraged to let go and I had to break the line
!630 and decided to pack up as the trawlers were starting to come in and empty their loads. Despite the grim start, a very enjoyable days fishing.
