Sun Nov 22, 2009 3:59 am

Duration: 16:00-20:00

Tide: HT @ 20:00 4.32m

Weather: Mostly dry fresh wind from the South occaissonal strong gusts.

Bait: Lug, Mackerel, Squid, Sandeel

Rigs: Various

Results: Flounder, Coalies, Dogs

Report: We arrived at Glasilaun to be greeted with blue skies and a calms seas. First casts were sent out with some opting to try close in I went for distance trying to get a dog during the hour or so of light we had to fish before the anticipated Coalies showed up. So I sent a pennel pully loaded with a sizeable chuck of mackerel and squid for the horizon and gave it a good soak, I clipped on a flyer and dropped it in the shallows. I was chatting to Corbyeire / Brian when I notice a good pull downwards looked like a Ray bite left it for another while and reeled in I could feel a decent bit of weight and thought, has to be a Ray when a fish surfaced a long way out not a Raymond so... it turned out to be two doggies on the pennel nice start game on. Brian was next in with the first Coalies getting a double to start... with that i sent my next baits in close long flowing snoods and to my surprise i got another doggie. Brian had another coalie and Papa Smurf / Ray got off the mark with a Flounder 29cm and a Coalie. Myself and Brian were trading fish with myself staying about 3 fish ahead.... Shane got off the mark with a Doggie and a Coalie. Brian was picking off single coalies and got back to within one fish of me when I pulled clear again on the next cast with my 2nd treble shot of Coalies. Ray and Shane were begining to pick of some Coalies and Ray had another 29cm Flounder. We had one 5min shower of hail stones and 1 or 2 showers but all in all it was a dry the wind was fresh with some strong gusts at times but it was behind us and the sea was flattened off in front. The fishing was just getting better and better and it was a shame when the 4hrs was up as we were all catching most casts for the last hour the smallest Coalie was 21cm the biggest 26cm. Final scores were:

1st - Conor Mountaine Peg 2 Fish 15 Points 358

2nd - Brian Riedy Peg 3 Fish 11 Points 253

3rd - Ray Toner Peg 4 Fish 9 Points 224

4th - Shane Gilvarry Peg 5 Fish 7 Points 162

id like to point out here on this public forum that it wasnt the 3 dogs with your 500metre casts that bet me - it was your cunning plan of not having batteries at the start - therefore taking my spares - knowing my batteries were going to die 20mins into darkness - and consequently the wonderful birdsnest i made myself with a fixed spool that i spent 45 mins sorting out today

oh by the way well done

consistency in a world gone mad

8)

you forgot to mention how i nearly polaxed myself with my rod bag - should be half way to america by now!!!
