Tide: all states

Weather: wed. gales and occasional torrential rain. fri. sunny and 15mph westerlys

Bait: harbour rag, white rag, lug, razor mack and sand eel

Rigs: 3 hook flappers

Results: WEDNESDAY 2 whiting 1 dab 1 shore rockling and a codling. FRIDAY 2 dab and 2 whiting

Report: WEDNESDAY. anytime we head out on a fishing trip down the east coast i always make a point of stopping off here for a session as it was the place where jordan caught his first ever fish (mackeral) and where i got my first full house of macks. so armed with an array of baits and 2 rods i almost felt compelled to fish it    . sadly it was blowing a bloody gale and bite indication was out the window    . so i just reeled in every 20 mins to see if i'd been robbed or if there was a fish attached to the trace    i must have missed loads of bites due to the weather as the hooks kept coming back in stripped. but at least it ment there were plenty of fish out there  the first fish was a dab who fell to the razor. then a shore rockling on mack and 2 micro whiting who were no bigger than the strips of mack they impaled themselves onto     . i rounded off the session with a codling who was about 30cms and had taken the fat juicy lug with gusto :P . it was the only bite that registered all night and i honestly thought he was gonna be a bit bigger, but it turned out that he had bitten well above his weight  . by 3am i was soaked and frozen to the bone. so i headed on to bed to get my head down in anticapation for my session with the east coast lads. (eyesreilley will put up a post of our exploits later today  )

THURSDAY
i decided to use up my left over bait on the way home to see if a bit of daylight fishing would reap a different result. the wind had calmed down a good bit and it was unusually sunny and bright :? :? :? . i also discovered a wee fish mongers shop in the harbour which is handy to remember should i ever run low on bait when i'm ever out that way again   . i got set up and landed a dab almost instantly and a couple more micro whiting. i put the last bit of mack on and cast out and landed another dab :P :P :P . but sadly the bait was all gone and i had to pack for home. 2 other anglers turned up and i at least had a bit of company for the last hour. all in all a good wee trip. clogherhead was good to me again and i did'nt blank at any of the marks in the 3 days i was away. so i was well made up   no bass, but plenty to keep me entertained all the same

I fish there regularly and have never caught a rockling - well done!

I took the dogs for a walk over that way today - with the storm, the water is brown from the sand and whatever, so my guess is that there won't be anything caught there for the next week or 10 days.

Thx jay

hey,, no probs jay. only the dabs were taken at distance. but the hot spot where i get most of the fish is just 10 feet from the railing slightly to the right towards the breakwater boulders. you'll need to use sacrificial rigs thow as you'll get snagged up and loose leads and some hooks. but that's where the fish come into nose around and feed on the small stuff hiding in the kelp    a simple 3 way swivel and a lead and hook will do the trick and keep tackle losses to a bare minimum :P . hope this helps man.

thanks man. we love that mark and it always surprises the hell out of me when we fish it in the winter as you hardly ever see another angler at it :| :| :| . it's usually packed with the macky bashers in the summer so best avoided with the bait fishing unless you like sorting multiple tangles    and the rockling are there, but they like to hide in the gaps in the boulders to the right of the railings. but you can tempt them out easy enough with a chunk of mack or prawn  just be prepared to loose a bit of tackle

yes man, you just might need to move it as the trawler guys sort their nets, but they're spot on about it :D
