BV New Pier 16:00-18:00
Tide: Just starting to come in.
Gear: Trusty (and rusty) telescopic, 2g float, size 16 hook.
Results: Coalies + 1 baby pouting.

Seeing as the weather was nice, we packed better half, kid + dog into car and headed off up the coast. First stop BV for a quick coffee in Monks - typical just as we arrived a busload of tourist was entering the bar - so a "quick" hour later we'd had our coffees and headed to Bishop's Quarter for a bit of a stroll.
Hadn't been there since I was a kid, forgot how lovely it is, bleak but so quiet, and with the sun shining on the bay watching the tidal wall move in from Galway Bay it was awesome. Spotted gazillions of big Mullet cruising around there too, and saw some spots that look likely for bass/flatties.
If anyone has fished this beach with success, I'd love to hear from you (PM if you would rather not reveal wheres/whens, etc)

Anyway, after that was done headed back to the new pier in BV as I "just so happened" to have my telescopic and gear, and amazingly, some frozen squid had found its way into the boot. heh heh. Tide was just on the turn so only about 4 feet of water off the pier. To be honest I didn't think it would do any good but from first cast to last it was literally one a chuck, getting bigger and bigger as the light faded. Best fish was about 25cms but there were bigger fish around as it got dark, just couldn't keep them on a size 16 let alone see the float...
Surprise of the evening was the young lad, had a go for 5 minutes and caught a tiny pouting (picture came out all black, crappy no flash camera phone :( which I have never caught myself. and only recognised from pictures!

One odd thing and I don't know if it's normal but I only ever saw it on a rudd lake where the fish then disappeared a few years later - all the fish were covered in little black spots except a very few of the larger ones. Fungal infections? Pity I don't have a photo to show of it.

Any juvenile coalies I have caught seem to have those small black spots for what its worth.
