Greystones-The steps 8/11/09

Mon Nov 09, 2009 11:08 am

People:Me and my Dad

Duration:2.30-7

Tide:In and then dropping

Weather:Rough sea's but no rain

Bait:Rag, squid and razor

Rigs:all sorts

Results:Dad: 6 whiting and 1 codling. Me:1 whiting

Report:Well my dad never fished this part of greystones before so we decided to give it a go. When we arrived there was a big swell and the sea was very rough. Got set up fast and lashed it out. After about 5 or so minutes my dad got a whiting of about 20-25 cm. I was next into a fish,a whiting again about the same size as my dads. My dad was pulling the whiting in as if there was no tomorrow as I just stood there and watched  A while later he got a great knock on the rod and he struck and reeled it in. The fish was pulling him down and trying to ground him. He got it in beside the rocks and didnt a big wave come along and then..slack line  needless to say he was gutted as it would have been the biggest fish he ever got(with a guess) and we never even got to see what it was! Later on he got a whiting which was over 30 cm and the biggest of the session so that was nice to see :) My dad ended with a codling(his first) and I ended with a crab  all in all a good session and was glad to see my dad catch the fish for a change :P

Well done Ian on saving the blank, and the whiting seem to be getting to a decent size. I went there first but thought it was a bit too choppy, the wind was blowing directly onto that spot.Wonder what the one that got away was?
