White Rock Killiney 18/10/09

Me, Rob and Dec

3.30 - 7pm

Calm and quite warm

Rag, mack, limpet

The "was the tide coming in or going out" argument out raged the entire session, It was halfway!

The entire tackle box was out again! Floats, 2 hook, 3 hook flappers, mini rigs, one ups downs, feathers everything!

About 7 wrasse between us.

Was supposed to fish wicklow pier but after much dilly dallying we were short of time and went to White Rock, Never fished it before but didn't know what to expect. The nudists came as no shock. It was tough going for a while. A snag a cast, it was very kelpy, You had to get a good cast out, which wasn't happening for us. Im trying to make a habit of using a shock leader and got snagged on my first cast and it was my knot that was the undoing of me! Mono on mono knot anyone?

Had a float out at first, when it went down it didn't come back up!

I started off with a smallish wrasse, then rob, the I got a decent wrasse, then a pb wrasse for me, Then Dec got a belter of a knock on the rod and I thought he was going to go in the water. He landed a lovely brick of a wrasse. Fish envy set in and we all know thats a terrible thing, So I was delighted to get a big fellah myself, besting my pb! Rob was having a tough time of it in the kelp. Lost alot of fish in the kelp. I had one huge wrasse to the surface only for my snood to snap. We were getting hits on whole limpet but we lost a lot in snags. Bit of a nightmare. Lost every weight in the box and oodles of tackle. Will be back with a different approach next time. Even the float came a cropper in snags, Tough session few fish but some big lads for a change. What a fight wrasse give.

Note: Decs (in the red cap) not a big fan of holding fish, thats why he doesn't go by himself!

Some nice Wrasse and photos, I hope the snags were not caused by the nudist

Lovely Dublin Wrasse lads.

Ever tried using Lead Lifts or a Rotten Bottom Rigs when fishing in a tackle graveyard?

I use lead lifts when Wrasse fishing and have cut down tackle losses considerably, only problem is that depending on the size of the lead lift the Wrasse can come flying out of the water at ya :)

If ye use a rotten bottom rigs the only thing you will loose is the weight and even that can be avoided if you can get your hands on a load of old spark plugs or some quick setting concrete and strong wire or something similar ;)

Rotton Bottom Rig :

If your into C&R then stand off booms and circle hooks baited with Rag should result in lip hooked Wrasse and near enough instant release.
