People:myself

Duration:17:00 to 20:30

Tide:high 17:17 5.2m

Weather:dry and cold

Bait:sand eel,squid,sprats

Rigs:3 hook flapper,conger trace

Results:1 conger,1 bull huss

Report:i decided to go to my conger mark because the wind was coming from the right direction,i set up the conger rod and as soon as the bait hit the water i started getting bites, the bait was being stripped every time, cast out the other rod at distance and shortly after that i caught the conger on the 3 hook flapper with sand eel

about 1 hour later i had a good knock on the conger rod and after a good fight landed the biggest bull huss i have caught so far,3 ft 2 inches long, caught him on squid

How ya Gerry,
Dara here met ya with Brian on a particulary wet and windy evening out past clifden this summer if ya remember...Still have to get out there again, next time the weather breaks maybe. Anyhow was wondering what ya think of big sprat and indeed the small ones as a bait. Is it worth trying them with mackeral when targeting Ray? Are they around all year round? I"ll try the feathers rig next time...good luck

hi dara i remember you all right nice to meet you that time,if you are out and want to target big huss i found a good spot for them, the sprats work well for the ray dogs huss and conger, also caught ray on sand eel
the ray should be around for another while but after this month they should be moving out
i didn't try for ray for a few months now, sick of getting them   might give them one last try in the next week or 2
if you are thinking of heading out let me know and i will give you a idea if your chances are good or not,my mark can be good or bad it depends if it rained or not
tight lines gerry
