Well done Conor, well deserved, you fished well all year. A few nervous moments yesterday but all came good in the end!
Fishing was really tough yesterday, had 6 undersize fish before pulling out a counter on the very last cast. Fair play to Owen too for winning the inaugural West Coast Shore League, hopefully it will go on and become a much bigger competition.

Fair play lads for making the team, great to see the league going strong in the west. Seeing as i was your tutor for many's a year Bradan i think you owe me a pint for this achievement

Seeing as I didn't take up sea fishing until moving to Galway, I think I'll take option B, as per JP's suggestion...

Owen won the Open Gold medal, which counted towards the league but not towards the Closed Gold/team selection. Different scoring system for the closed gold/team too. Don't have the scores in front of me but I reckon that was the difference.

Just find it strange that the league is five comps and include the four closed gold medal comps but he didnt make the top five in the closed gold medal team.
One of the lads said that Conor won the gold with two blanks out of four. Is this true.
Was the fishing that bad up there this year?
Bring everything to Gurteen, proper fishing ha ha

Owen Finished 9th in the 1st leg of the Gold Medal he didn't fish the 2nd leg He was 3rd in the 3rd leg and 4th in the Final Leg. Its the best 3 of 4 in the Gold Medal so in effect Owen had 16 points. He came 2nd in the Open Gold medal and i was 3rd in that both counted for the league but not the closed Gold medal. I won the first two legs of the closed Gold medal and 6th in the final leg (given that only 4 counting fish were caught) giving me 8 points. I had an undersize fish in the last leg which was short by 1cm that would have won me the league also but thats fishing and Owen was a worthy and deserving winner fishing consistantly throughout.... just for the record Michael Curtain won the Open Gold Medal.
No worries with Gurteen i've two wins there this year already
