Report:
Headed to a wicklow beach with the lads after work. DB sorted the bait so all we needed to do was turn up. We launched crab baits seaward early on and it wasn't long before the dogs were homing in our lovely baits
Graeme arrived shortly after meself & Dennis and promptly fell over the boulders coming on to the beach, only hurt pride and an injured arse cheek insued. Shortly after I was reeling in a rig I'd had a few knocks on but with no dog on, the gear felt very light. The rig was only about 20 yards out & just under the surface when the hole thing locked solid, then started coming again and then solid again, I didn'y know what was going on. Then I saw the little coalie that was on my rig come clean out of the water

, then the same again, hole thing locked up again then he shot out of the water.
It finally registered with me he had been grabbed on the way in by a bass but I'd run out of water before i could hook him. I said i'd give him another chance so i underarmed him out about 20 yards and put the rod back in the stand. I was just about to bring it in rebait when all of a sudden the rod hooped over and line started peeling off the reel. The fish was heading for Rosslare and i was using B940M's !!
I eventually got him turned and soon after slid a cracking 7lb bass onto the beach. Unfortunately the rest of the session wasn't as good, we kept hitting the dogs, but the fine bass more than made up for it.
Dennis will add a picture later, KStaff was right, the big autumn bass are coming back inshore.
