A wicklow strand, 14-9-9

Tue Sep 15, 2009 7:53 pm

People: meself and mate Richie

time: 8pm- 3am

tide..high water bout 7thirrty..

weather- breezy but dry

rigs: pulleys and flappers

bait: crab/rag/sandeel

results: sea scorpion, codling, poor cod, whiting, starry smooth pups, coalfish..

report:
Decided to head off down to wicklow for some fishing, as Richie had inherited some rods, reels and such off his sister's bloke... decided to get himi his first fish.. The original plan to stay in a tent on site, but after a quick call we managed to upgrade our accommodation to a bungalow, with bbq and tennis court.. :P

Got set up bout 8pm, one rod out far with crab, one with sandeel and then a flapper in close to keep the small species flowing. Richie was first off the mark with his first fish, a rather respectable sized sea scorpion... beautifully coloured..

Then we had coalies, whiting, codling and poor cod. No rockling with I was after for the count....
Bout 1am I got a nice little bang on crab rod- pulled in a small pup starry. Followed this with another, slightly bigger bout 5 mins later. Had thought the second one was a bigger fish as it fought spiritedly right to the edge, then appeared to shed bout 5lb weight!! :D

Ran outta bait after more codling, whiting and such. Back to snausages and beans....

All babbies, but nice to be able to show my friend the diversity of fish around the irish shores, and instill the fishing bug in him..
