Report:
a horrible 9 o'clock kick off meant leaving my home at 3:45 in order to get to the check in on time. croppy and i hit wicklow around a uater past 4 to meet up with denis and head down in the fish bus. we reached youghal just after seven and spent the next half and hour looking for a breaky roll, sadly it was not to be and a kikkat and cupa would have to suffice. with check in over lumpy and i went on another bricfeàst hunt, job done i could now fish sleep deprived and not hungry at the same time. 9 bells summoned the beginning of what was to a plesurable day. i decided to put my first cast well out in the search of one of youghals hungry flats, the baits came back in as they went out, not so good. first casts for denis, alby and keith payed off including a fine 42cm fish just under specimen the alby man. i put the next cast back out again and after another a fruitless 15 min i changed tactics, brought the fixed spool jobby off the spare stand and threw him in the game, lobbed a three hook flapper out around 60 yards and began to twitch it in very slowly, at this point keith had added another fish to his tally as had alby.
the twitching didnt pay off but i decided to give it another go, out again this time a bit further to right i started twitching again. after a few turns of the reel-bang! a good bite, i decided to leave it be and went off for a few minutes, after recieving some abuse for various crimes from my fellow club mates i went back to my rod to find it slack and wound in a fine double, of a 35cm and 33cm flounder. happy days, back out to the same spot and i found the brother, as 15 minutes later i reeled in another nicely conditioned 34cm fish. by now the tide had slackened off and the fish went off the feed, with only aa few fish getting cught. more flounder walks ensued and s the tide started to run the lads on the higher pegs started catching fish at distance, i decided to follow suit, and launched a three hook clip down out as far as i could, 4 casts later i had three more fish on my card including my best flounder of the day at 38cm. donal had 7 fish on his card and with keith and i on six and with the clock ticking down we we're doing our damndest to catch up. last cast hd me miss a good bite, and on closer inspection when i examined the bait the crab was masking the hook point, poor presentation cost me that fish. donal was a clear winner anyway, as his fish we all of good size including the only round of the day a 41cm bass and share for the longest flat with alby.
