Stopped at New Quay for a Bowl of Clams in Lenannes. All my gear was at the back of the boot but I had a box of flies in the front and so picked a fly with a silver body and I had a go at SWFF. The Tide was out and the water was 6/7ft below me so the casting purests would not have been impressed with the line splashing down but a couple of coalies about the size of a small trout were fooled and I had my first SW fish on a fly rod!

On the Saturday I got the tide wrong for a trigger mark so I headed to Carrigholt with the family to try for mullet and conger and give my youngest a go spinning with his new rod. I un packed and Mrs M took the lads for a coke while I set up. A major gale was blowing and I nearly went in, I forgot my knife, my phone was kaput and the family decided not to come back for 2 hours  I borrowed a dinner knife from a man sorting his pots butchered some mackeral stuck it on a meat hook to get a conger and got two doggies - a first for the year so something good hapened.

On the Sunday, we went looking for Mullet. I was trying to use a version of the carp "method" I have seen on TV. Get the fish feeding on a mackeral fillet and as the fish are grazing on the flesh of the fillet my plan was to hide a hook in the flesh and hook up. Didn't work, perhaph the line sticking out attached to the hook put them off. New plan dropped down a small hook baited with mack, there was loads of interest and mouthing, we were going mad but eventualy we hooked in to a 3lb-er and landed him back up the pier. The others were still feeding but by the time I baited up again they were gone - for good..We chucked a few small sabiki and the kids got into some coalfish.

I am going to try to tidy up that "method" am convinced it will do the job....but what do I know
