venue- inch

people 4- dsull myself ans two others

bait- fresh lug and madddies

rigs- 3hook flappers size2 match hooks

arrived at inch just before 930 only to discover our favoured mark was covered in banks of serious weed. a quick move a couple of hundred yards meant we would be able to fish fairly comfortable and hopefully lure out a few bass.

my first cast was maybe a bit far into the breakers but they looked so fishy i couldn't resist. pure disaster rod nearly came off the stand but not for the good reason huge ball of weed it looked like we would be moving. then the brother pulled out a 19cm flounder on maddies so the mini comp was on no weed close within 60yds of the beach it seemed.

nothing more happened except for a small bass of28cm things got awful quiet which is really strange for inch specially at night. after around a half hour of head scratching i decided to load up my hooks 4lug each and drop one a bit closer to shore to see if i had been bypassing the fish all along. so i waded to my knees and then just a gentle chuck. i was re-baiting my second trace when the rod tip went well over, first thing i did was check to see none of the lads were messing with me tugging the line- coast clear bass ahoy. after about 10 mins a seriously angry off bass made his way to the shore lots of head shaking and left to right runs.

the bass measured55cm but was extremely fat and well fed i guessed at5lb but have suspicions it might of been a bit more.after this things seemed to pick up dsull added a 30cm flounder and the lad on the left took a double on huge bunches of maddies bound on to keep the crabs away 30 and 28 for the pair. i continued with the big lug baits while dsull added a 26cm flounder to the list and was rewarded with another good bite though not as good as the first. i picked up the rod but could feel no fish so i set it down to give it a chance then bang 3mins later rod doubles over and the fun begins. i get it to the first breaker and catch sight of a lovely bit of silver attempting to escape but not having much luck. so i get the bass into about 3inches of water and discover a lovely flounder has joined the party i'm just about to collect my prize when the wave surges in and we're in a foot of water and the fish are going berserk the tide retreats and panic takes over the bass has come off but is dazed and not moving down goes the hand up comes the spikes  i decide to then pin him til the water retreats enough. the result a bass 44cm but again very fat but still only 44so he escaped the pan and a flounder 34cm a lovely double act. next cast a flounder26 then the heavens opened torriential rain for 20 mins enough was enough, i was delighted with the few hours fishing after the poor start.anyone any ideas as to how heavy the 55bass would be no scales

a 56cm Bass should be about 4lbs give or take 10% for the condition. i had one last week of 55 and it was 3lb 15oz

cheers folks

the surf was really up on inch alright they were breaking for maybe 100 yards if it had been daylight we would of added a few surfers to our catch list :)

cheers red i have caught bass to this size earlier in the year but they were always much leaner, but i didn,t weigh them either i really must invest in a proper scales... when the fish was gutted a quick inspection of its stomach contents revealed it had a belly full of sandeel. this might explain the lack of bass action that night they were probably much too busy chasing sandeel and sprat
