Results: 2 small conger and a bucket of mackerel
Report:
The wind had dropped a bit so I thought I would see if I could get a few mackerel for bait. Set up a heavy rod with a rotten bottom and wire trace to fish on the ratchet while I was feathering. First cast of the feathers gave me a single fish which was filleted and cast out about 20 yards, ratchet and drag set I continued with the feathers. The first few clicks alerted me and I struck the rod, the trace was stuck fast so I gave it some line and waited then restruck. After a short fight I landed a small conger of about 4lb

A bit later I had another conger of about 7lb

I carried on feathering for a while and had a good run with the ratchet screaming, but I was bringing in some mackerel at the time and the run was dropped. I dont think it was a conger as it took to much line. I paid the price for trying to do two things at once and missed (possible) the best fish of the day.
Thanks to the charter skipper who had the decency to stay away from where I was fishing, many of them dont bother and come within a flying leads range
