Donaghadee Pier, 24/08/09

Tue Aug 25, 2009 2:36 pm

People:Me

Duration:2145 - 0015

Tide:rising (HW @ 0100)

Weather:breezy, dry

Bait:mack, cooked prawns

Rigs:3 hook flappers, 3 boom bling

Results:3 shore rockling, 2 doggies, 1 pout

Report:

Got both rods set up. Fished one at distance with 1/0 3 hook flapper and mack, and the other about 5 yards out, with a homemade 3 boom rig with lots of beads, size 4 hooks and prawn. Had 3 rockling within the first half hour, all on the cooked prawn and the homemade rig :) . I lost the rig on my next retrieve   , so put on a 3 hook flapper baited with mack and prawn, and again fished this close in.
Over the next hour, I had 2 doggies on the distance rod, and ended the night with a pout on the distance rod.

I have been relatively lucky with rig losses recently, but every 3rd or 4th retrieve ended up in a snag, and a lost rig and sinker  , especially on the rod which was fished close in .

Still, I had caught a few fish, so that softened the pain!!

Cheers Fisherking. I am told that the cooked prawns are also good for the wrasse, but I have yet to experience this for myself  The only drawback with them is they are a nightmare to keep on the hook

Cheers Dan. I had one codling a few weeks back, but that is all I have seen all year
