Report: I had a few fresh and some frozen peeler just begging to be used so decided on my third and last smoothie trip to deepest darkest Wexford in the last few weeks. Fished the same mark each time and have been lucky with the conditions each time. Very fishable and almost weed free. Also fished the same stage of the tide on each occasion. If anything this last trip had the most difficult conditions with a slightly strengthening southerly coming up in last couple of hours the weed started to appear but nothing to worry about. On the first and second occassions had 6 and 4 smoothies but nothing to compare with this trip. Left work up in Belfast on Monday at about 1700 and drove down to the mark and with stops for food etc i was on the beach and fishing by 2200. First hour or so was pretty quiet with only a solitary smoothie about 3 lb. As the tide started to flood the numbers appearing started to increase and by about 0130 i had 6 or 7 up to 5 lb on the beach. After this it just went crazy. I had rods bouncing out of stands all over the place. Eventually had to pack one rod up after the second occassion when my second rod was dragged over while playing a fish on the other. I stopped counting at a dozen but by 0300 which was my deadline for the drive home i had somewhere around 20 smoothies landed. Most in the 3-4 lb range with the best topping 5 lb. Nearly all starrys. My hopes hadn't been that high and i did think once or twice on the drive down that this could be long way for not much so late in the year, but delighted with the session and well worth the exhaustion in work on Tuesday.

These 2 came ashore a couple of minutes apart.

Pretty new to this smoothie fishing and i was just wondering if any of the regular smoothie anglers have noticed are they nearly always nicely hooked in the middle of the lower jaw, or was it just my imagination.

All fish were of course returned to fight another day.

Used the frozen up first so by the time they arrived in force i was only using the fresh. To be honest i don't think it would have mattered with the fish in that sort of mood. On previous trips i have had the impression the frozen has been better. Again only really started using the crab in the last year or so and simply peel, remove gills and store as recommended on this site. Works a treat.

Yep Danny spot on. Now all you have to tell me is where the really big ones live!

They would give most fish a good run for their money. Certainly one of the most aggressive takes from anything i've fished for.

Good Stuff.

Francis,

Thats not bad thought it would be longer than that. I would love to head down that way to get my first bass or smoothy. Just need to find the time.
