Report:
First time out trying new things (only feathered before) so no laughing !!!
Went to Greenore to feather for mackerel. There was loads of small fry/fish at the shore edge. As I was setting up there was a big sizzle on the water about 50 metres out. All the local seniors jumped up from their chat and started firing their lines in, so I was hopeful of a bag full of mackerel !!
It was not to be, I caught one and saw about 4 others caught in about 2 hours, (and the water didn't sizzle again).
I foul hooked a sand eel aswell which was a welcome doubling of my catch.
It got crowded and I wanted to try something new so I walked up the beach a bit to a quieter spot, put on a three hook rig and used my mackerel as bait. Caught plenty of seaweed in two hours and a crab that wouldn't let go of my mackerel.
As my bait ran out, I saw a couple of fish splashing at the surface abou 60 metres out. Being a novice I don't know what they were. I threw on a spinner but couldn't get the distance and they disappeared.
So all in all not a very successful haul of fish, but a great way to pass the day.
Onwards and upwards I go.
Only took a photo of the crab
