Report:
got picked up at 6.30am to head up to the club masters at Ramore and after raiding the garage for some form of breakfast we where on our way. arrived at ramore at 7.30 and got the gear out of the car and waited fro the rest of the club before doing the peg draw for the walk off. at 8am we all set off 1 at a time to pick a spot, myself and mark rainey headed to the back of the head for some conger and wrasse fishing. after a long walk over the rocks arrive at my wee spot at the back and set for 8.45am and then along came the rest of the club following me and mark lol as usual. anyway. lines in was at 9am so i dropped close lookin for a conger and mark put a bait out about 60 or so yards lookin for a dog. 1st hour nothing then the dogs came on and mark had bagged 2 in 2 cast and lost somethin big which we reckoned was a conger or a good huss. i was next, the conger gear was gettin a good bit of interested from what i thought was small rockling or pout stealing my bait so i picked up the rod and started to reel in to be greeted by a nice 3 b rockling which was 41cm in lenght and 2lb 4oz in weighta couple of picks and away it went. for me all was quiet til the last hour and mark was hitting wrasse every cast on the float using rag set at a depth of 9ft his best on the day was 34cm. my next fish came at around 12.45 got a run on the conger gear hit it and it was stuck solid so i moved down closer to the water so i could get my shockleader back on my reel to see if i could get i my rig back as soon as i lift the rod tip up bang the fish decided to go for a wee run to my left after a nice wee scrap up came a nice conger of 12lb dead happy days target species landed. after that i had a couple more runs but nothin came of them. all in all was a good days fishing. and i though i was gonna come back off the mark lighter from losing gear but i was wrong not one rig or lead lost. i'll try and get some picks up of the rockling and conger

cheers jonny

Nice one- always good to catch a target species. I wish I was as fortunate on my bass trips....... Well done on the results. Wouldn't mind getting a conger.

I wasn't going to claim for a specimen cause I think for 3 b rockling you need to send the fish to be confirmed as a 3 b rockling and I didn't fancy killing it for a piece of paper and my name in a handbook. but got a nice pic of the fish to go in my wee scrap book I'm making for my wee lad so he can go out and catch them too lol.
cheers jonny

ah good man yourself jonny. just like ourselves then, a good pic with you and the fish suits us better than a piece of paper. sits a lot better on the old conscience knowing he's out there to grow a bit bigger ready to grace someone elses hook in the future  fair play to ya mate :D not that i'm getting at anyone who would have bumped him on the head for the certificate by the way,,,,... each to their own :)

Nice wee session there jonny, especially with the specimen 3 bearded rockling.
By the way you dont need to keep the body to claim for specimen rockling, or most fish for that matter, all you need is for it to be weighed on certifyed scales, measurement for length and girth and a couple of clear photos showing distinguishing features. alot of people seem to think you have to kill fish for a specimen award

oh rite didn't know that mate. i looked on the Irish trophy fish website the other week cause i wanted to know some weights for some species and printed out the sea list and it say for 3B rockling confirmation "body" maybe thats the old one i've no idea lol. i have pics of the fish and the length but not the girth. but sure there's plenty for that size at ramore lol

i ended up 4th some guy had a 8 or so wrasse and the way our score system works for some species you only get x amount of points. i agree with the points for a doggies but i think for congers you should what the length of the fish is because imho they take alot of time and work to catch and land so you earn those points. if that was the case i'd have come 2nd.

thanks again lads for all your comments

cheers jonny

well done jonny. cracking session mate.

Just ordered a decent set of scales so first on the list is to get them verified.
