Wexford 8/9th august 2009

I managed to get some fishing in while visiting the folks this weekend. On Saturday evening I headed towards a mark in wexford harbour that I had heard was producing GH Bream. There were a few people on the mark itself so I fished near by, got tormented by crabs, and landed a nice flounder. I found out later from someone else that quite a few bream have been kept from this mark over the last while- lets hope it doesn't get fished out. I'd guess there are a few spots around the harbour that will produce them with a bit of investigation..(ghb fry were netted in the harbour a few years ago)
I then decided to go for a drive, found myself up near blackwater so gave it a few casts-had a few flounder for my troubles.

I had intended to get up early the next morning but I slept on. I drove down to St Helens for a look around anyway, there were a few guys fishing greenore pt. I decided I wouldn't bother spinning, grabbed the bass rod in the car and some lug, and fished the north end of Bing Bay. A few more flounder , some nice scenery (!) too. Somebody told me it had been quiet that morning spinning/plugging for bass. I headed back into town, and had a few casts from the quayfront. I picked up a small schoolie to rag, sent it back on its way and headed home.

Sunday evening I gave Old Bawn an hour or so on the way back to Dublin - I had one bass of about 2 lbs and a few flounders. I saw one other bass caught there before I left..

Nice fishin, John.

Tried Greenore & St.Helens myself at the weekend, not a fish to be seen either. :(
You may PM me that GHB mark... - then I'll PM you another one.

Also made a wasted trip to Bannow - for anyone who's interested, Bannow Island is now awash with its yearly visitors (on the shore, not in the water! :? ), so unless you drive a tank and wear body armour, I'd give the place a wide berth for the moment.
They're early this year... lets hope they're gone before the macks arrive...
