Tragumna Co.Cork 7th August 2009

Sat Aug 08, 2009 11:46 am

People:Anthony

Duration:19:40 - 02:38

Tide:Evening High Tide

Weather:A little bit over cast (sea clear)

Bait:nil

Rigs:Blue and white kilty lure 3 coloured feathers

Results:1 pollack

Report: My first serious fishing trip.. Right time of day. Right tackle.

10 casts or so in I caught a pollack. It took the yellow feather. I had one more bite on a retrieval and that's it. I guess the fish had watches and new when the hour after high tide was up.

Locals have told me to go 1hr before and after high tide to use coloured feathers and to add an extra chance use a lure instead of a weight.
my rods max casting weight is 40g so the 38g kilty lures work nicely with my telescopic rod.

If anyone is heading out to Tragumna I will be there 5.30 til 8 pm tonight 8th August 09 (i have a car for a few days) I could do with some pointers in retrieval and where to fish. ( I am not from ireland and some one was saying sandy cove is good this time of year. Near Bantry??).

This has made me decide to get a better spinning rod (this one is telescopic) for about 50 euro any suggestions would be appreciated.

I went to the same spot today. those who know trag its opposite the wall and theres a concrete path ... after an hour i caught one put it back same size as yesterday and it was a pain too cook small bones etc.......
So i went to where the boat launch, near the pub.
This is about 45 mins after high tide.
Second cast i caught a boat.... lost a kilty lure... beginners luck i suppose...

other side of row boat pollack same size as above pic giving 2 cm each way

ok from here on it gets hectic... i caught a further 7 or 8 pollack one cast i caught 2 so i got confused with numbers..... i threw them all back figuring in a years time they might be worth eating. it is weedy and rocky there... i lost 2 kilty lures and a german wedge and 3 sets of feathers...

my advice to any one fishing this spot is use a weight count to 4... then bring it in on a slow return and prey not to get snapped up..
This has been one of the most fun days i have had out fishing on my own (I did course fishing with my dad as a kid).

Again i need a better rod ... and then a reel (€50) on each i like to spin as i dont think i have the patients to ledger (or enough €€€ as i have no job at the moment)
