Waterford and the Pink Princess 04-Aug-09

Tue Aug 04, 2009 7:14 pm

People:Baz and Myself

Duration:A few hours

Tide:falling

Weather: all 4 seasons in a few hours!

Bait: Hard Plastics

Results: 1 Bass

Report:

Alarm went off at 03:30am and I was greeted by rain beating off window, didn’t matter this was the last day of my holidays for this year so I was still going fishing!!...so I text Baz and told him to bring his wet suit
We scouted around Wexford but conditions were bad to worse !, so we decided to head for Waterford in search of some water with a bit of clarity.
After a long drive and the breakfast out of the way, we eventually got to the spot we wanted to attack! Conditions looked ok and the tide was falling.
I clipped on my little Pink Princess and fired her out, about 20 turns in I was hit by Billy the Bass, the rod arched over and I shouted to Baz....Fish On :P the fish gave a nice little fight and posed well for a few pics :) Good start !
Sent him on his way and fired the Princess back out. Mean while, fish were rising and splashing about as Baz teased them with his Pachinko but no hook ups unfortunately.
About 15mins after I landed my first fish I was about 10 turns into a cast when I got absolutely NAILED !!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!! !!!!!
Rod bent clean over to the butt, I lifted into the fish and the weight I felt was unreal as the drag screamed...zip zip zip zip zip......zip zip zip ... O Dear I’ve hooked a Submarine !!!!
I shouted at Baz .....'This is a double figure' ( a phrase not used lightly!) ... I cant remember what his words were as he realised the speed the fish was taking line..but anyway he was surprised I think  . The fish powered off from the right of me way up to the left pure power, there was no current or tide rip where I hooked this fish to aid it in its struggle. I managed to turn him after a heart stopping 60 seconds but he started to violently head shake and then it all went slack,,,................... I wont repeat what was said after that.
Soon after that event I lost my Pink Princess to the deep blue sea    ..its ok my dear, il pick your sister up tomorrow and all will be forgiven :)
No more action after that. We had a drive around to some other nice looking locations but the water was like soup so we called it a day and got back on the road for wexford.

Im gonna have to take insurance out on these lures !

Amazing last pic there! Cracking report too.

I wonder is there any chance that a big predator type fish may of come into the area and activity ceased with all the others? A crazy thought maybe, but I reckon there are certain fishies now in areas where they are not supposed to be!! Heard a few reports of similar scenarios of late.

That hadn't occurred to me - but I know there is a monster bass out there - the one that broke my hook when I could see him in the shallows a few months ago. But who knows.
