Headed out early this morning to a mark that I haven't been to in awhile for a bit of plugging. Nice morning for it...not to bright and a bit of a southerly blowing so conditions were good. First two bass turned up at the expected time (nice to see them sticking to their old routine!) both under 4lbs but good scrap all the same on light gear. Tried a few different lures/shads/plugs etc but the J13 did the business as usual for this mark. A seal turned up then looking for an easy meal and it went quite for awhile.... finally he fecked off and I had another bass about 3lb on float fished rag about an hour later. Tried for a few mackeral for dinner but none showed up and with the rain approaching I decided to call it a day...will be returning shortly though

Well done, great session. It's nice when the fish turn up to the markers!!! Caught a bass myself this morning 2-3lbs, first this year. What a feeling!

Nice daytime Bass! Am heading down that way with my 2 lads this week for 2 days to see if we can catch our first Bass. I would be very grateful if you could PM me the location of your mark as although I have sailed out of Monkstown I have never fished down that part of the world. Thanks in advance!

Well done on the bass, at least you managed to get out before the weather turned foul. I headed out in the afternoon but after 30 minutes of hooking weed pack it in just as the rain started. I was going to do some beach fishing later but the weather just got worse so I decided that a few cans of beer was a better option.

What lenght drop did you fish the rag under the float?
Been meaning to try that out lately but havnt got round to it yet!

Hi Danny....the hook is tied to about 4ft of fluorocarbon which is attached to a swivel, above that the line runs through a weighted float with an adjustable rubber stop so the depth can be varied if required....so far though 4ft seems about right but obviously it depends on the mark. I started using this method a recently after losing a couple of plugs targeting bass that were basically feeding only a few yards out from the shoreline in a very rocky/weedy spot...using the float I was able to put bait right over them and it's really paid off. I'm going to experiment with a few different baits and directional floats now. For anyone thinking of giving it a go, I'd recommend it...watching that float is addictive
