killala / inniscrone 31.7.09

Fri Jul 31, 2009 11:57 am

People: me an steve from england

Duration: all day

Tide: up, down up

Weather: very peculiar meterolgical conditions - the sky wasnt wet :D

Bait: fresh mack!

Rigs: feathers , flappers, wire and mono conger rigs

Results: heap of mack, 1 conger, 2 flounder

Report:

had a quick mackie session, with donal on the leah, out of killala - fresh bait sorted, and stuck in cooler bags with a few bags of frozen chips cus they were cheap and we couldnt get ice. :D :)

steve has never had a conger so headed to inniscrone to try an pick one up. fished over the back wall, on the drop ( tackle graveyard, but usually plenty of conger about - tho usually small. steve had one missed run after about 20 minutes, but then all was very quiet. just planning on heading off and I got one about the 5lb mark - which had ignored my super conger rigs, and took a wee mack Bait on a 3 hook flapper, gave it another while , I hooked another, but it was jamed solid, tried the usual routine of swinging off the rod, letting it go slack, strumming the line and sending the fish psyhic messages, but all to no avail, eventually pulled for a break.

headed back round to killala, and ross strand for low water, fished to the left in front of the big stone building - nice little beach - lots of lug, loads of wee small crabs washed up and wee fish in the pools, I had 2 flounder - 1 about 15cm, the other bout 25,

both in really close, ( had really wellied out a 3 hook flapped out, full range (bout 50yds :D  ) and worked it back in a few yards at a time - the fish were about 30ft out , had to head off as dark approched - as we had no headlights, and steve was knackered after watching me catch all the fish :) :)

would definitly fish there again - reckoned it would produce the goods after dark.

Nice one Rosses is a lovely beach i fished by the wooden post in to the channel earlier this year got a few dogs i think that side of the bay fishes so much better than the inniscrone side.
