Results:2 thornback ray 2 crabs




Report:went to my usual ray spot didn't think i would get any when i saw the color of the water,looked like a bog hole very brown
decided to try it for awhile anyways,after 10 mins landed my first ray
then got plagued by 5 young lads from the 20 caravans that moved in,they were asking for a spare fishing reel and hooks they even tried to open the tackle bag then they started to shout mister mister you have a fish,saw the rod give 3 good taps and then the line went slack,told them it was only the wind,i sat on the tackle bag for 30 mins until they finely cleared off,let them go well out of sight before i reel in my second ray,i thought it was better they didn't see what was in the spot

caught the second ray on a size 6 hook that i put out to see if there was anything smaller then ray about,i think i could get ray at this spot with out using hooks at all

any one know why a spot that has lots of ray has no flat fish,never caught a flat at this mark,found a rig at the mark as well,any one use it before

guessing the flat fish get bullied out of it by the ray - you would think there would be some dabs out there with them at least???

Nice fishing man.

We went to a beach mark recently and were just about to get out of the car when at the end of the laneway down to the beach we saw at least 30 young lads. We waited a few minutes to see if they would move on, but their number only grew. We decided to move up a little further rather than engage them!

think you are right about the ray being bullies
often had a few local young lads asking about fishing and gave them a few hooks and gear but the lads the last day were just trying to distract me to see if they could get anything out of the bag,hopefully they will be shifted out of the place soon

it spoils the fishing when things like that happens,i am just glad the ray went slack line and they didn't see what they could catch seen a lot of the daddy's fishing the beach when i arrived but don't think they would get anything there

i would say they were about the 5 lb mark,didn't bother to weight them because i wanted to get them back in the water and out of sight quick

I had my knife stolen out of my bucket on Sunday - probably when I waded out to cast one time I noticed a guy walking along the beach level with my gear. Later I discovered the knife was gone - I hadn't used it all day so I couldn't have taken it out and mislaid it - must have been stolen

Worked near Clifden for months 20 years ago , stayed in the Alcock and Brown Hotel. Papers came in on the bus from Galway at 9pm ,,, and at that you couldnt get one as they were all booked . Why wasnt i into fishing then Sitting in a room watching RTE 1 . Pubs only got going after closing time . On a more serious note, i'm also spending more time watching my gear lately. My camera, phone, car keys are all in it . I suppose these guys are fascinated by the selection of hooks, rigs and other fishing gear, they mostly have just a rusty hook tied on to a large chunk of bait. It can also be a bit intimidating if your at a remote spot with a gang of boyos.I think your tactics were perfect in dealing with that situation , well done
