People:me

Duration:7pm-10-30pm

Tide:rising

Weather:rain held off, for the most part

Bait:rag, mack

Rigs:flappers and mini rigs.

Results:2x mackeral, corkwing wrasse, coalies, pollock, codling, scorpion fish, blennies,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and a bass

Report:Was supposed to go Saturday evening but was too tired,,,or so the wife told me  ,,,,,so headed out after work today for a few hours to Greystones. There were a few mack bashers there when i arrived , but a heavy shower ensured that some left and i set up at my usual spot  . I set up the two rods but i was concentrating more on the small one as i've become addicted to catching tiddlers   . A steady stream of codling, pollock, coalies and whiting followed as the skies cleared and the rain moved out to sea. A seal was nearby but didnt seem to affect the fishing. I was getting some small fish on the big rod at distance but i considered packing it away to concentrate on wrasse and other species in close. I sent it out for a last cast and bent down to bait the small rod when the big rod jumped and i grabbed it just before it went over the edge,,,,,,,,,,,,,,fish on and i reeled in a nice bass of about 45cms 8)

.A quick pic and i released it . This was the first bass i caught at distance and the first that really thumped the rod. I took a pic with the phone and sent it to Fishface to cheer him up   ,,i'm sure he was delighted for me,,,,as i was for him when he caught 2 smoothies recently   . I baited the big rod again and cast out,,,, it was thumped again and i thought it was another bass, but it was a decent size mackeral who gave a better scrap than the bass.

Igot another one later on before i finally packed the beachcaster away. I got a lot of small fish on it too which were eaten by some bigger fish

On the small rod in close i was getting plenty of corkwing wrasse, male and female, lots of coalies and a curious black blenny

Hi Brian, thats just an endearing term that the lads on the site here use for people who come out of the woodwork this time every year to fish for mackeral. To qualify as a mack basher you have to cast sideways and cross other peoples lines, just miss others with your lead, and most importantly leave your litter scattered about your fishing site. These people are not to be confused with us real anglers  . Hope this clarifies.

way to go dave :P :P :P you got the silver fella :!: . one more than us i may add  the both of us are dead jealous. well done man. we seem to be paying more attention to the wee rod at our feet when we go out fishing now than the one at distance, these minis are addictive     i think it's because the hits come so often, it's hard to put the rod down  we'll have to arrange a bass session down your way soon, you provide the location and we'll bring the monster lug    :P

You forgot to mention that they usually consume limitless quantities of cheap lager and throw the empty cans into the sea.
