Browns Bay 15/07/09

Thu Jul 16, 2009 11:07 am

People:Me

Duration:12pm-7pm

Tide:HT@5pm

Weather:Monsoon

Bait:Lug,Mack

Rigs:Everything

Results:2 Macs,1Pollack,2 Dogfish

Report:Went to Browns bay as its a place i have never fished before.Arrived and setup on the far right of the beach on the rocks, setup the big rod with lug and mack and i also brought the spinning rod to see if anything was about.Fishing was very slow to start with then i caught a mackerel on feathers(fresh bait) :)
Then the rain started or should i say Monsoon, although the wet gear kept me dry it was hard to focus on anything the rain was that bad. Then i got a knock on the spinning rod again a little pollack was brung in using a spinner, mean whlie the bait rod was showing no signs of anything at all(baits untouched). Then while i was spinning the big rod got a knock so i struck and 2 doggies where pulled in and were a pretty good size, after that the fishing went quiet again untill i hooked another mac then it was almost time to head home.On a side note to anyone who fish's this place be aware of the swell from the ferries coming to and fro it can be a HUGE swell at times.
Also the amout of Seatrout here was amazing all jumping,at times right in front of me but alas i could not hook into 1 i think they were taunting me :).I will definately be back to this spot as its a lovely tranquil place to fish.i think i need more of a variety of baits.

Fair play getting a few fish at the bay Boyler. Lovely spot to fish. Plenty of seatrout about there, try a smaller spinner than what you are using for the pollock for them. I swear by abu krill lures for them, 10-12grams only and you'll get a few hits. 8)

Thanks minty, yes its very handy to get there just follow the road to larne and you will see the sign to Browns Bay scenic route on the right. If you do fish there just be careful of the swell when the ferries pass mate it can get a bit rough about 10 mins after they pass.

nice one paddy. it always pays to keep an eye on the swell as the ferrys pass by that spot as it can catch you out easy enough

Well done, nice pictures :D
That's a nice part of the country to fish.
Was there signs of any seatrout?
I have heard that there has been a few caught up there recently.

yes there was plenty of seatrout jumping right in front of me at times, but unfortunately i couldn't seem to catch any on any of the lures i was using but i am going to get a few abu krill lures suggested by rab01 for the next time i head up there :)
