donegal rock mark 12.07.09

Mon Jul 13, 2009 4:33 pm

People:me & mick

Duration:8.00-12.000

Tide:high at 10

Weather:warm, medium swell

Bait:rag & lug

Rigs:pulley

Results:pollack, wrasse

Report:On the drive to one of the usual marks we got chatting about a headland we had spied and said could be worth a walk so with our boots on we headed off into the unkown. Things looked very promising but the bottom proved to be very rough and I lost more rigs than I even thought I had with me    , Then I tried a jelly worm I found crawling around the bottom of my box and soon landed a small but deeply coloured pollack and then lost the jelly worm on my next cast  , naturally I spent some time exlaining to mick how I at least hadn't blanked   , so he duely wound in a 41cm wrasse at 2.5lb    , I must admit I had it coming as he spent the next hour discussing and comparing the 2 fish
no matter where we moved to we lost tackle for the whole evening so must explore it again with a spinning rod  and loads of lures :!:

well done on exploring new ground,by the colour of the pollack i would say there is a lot of kelp around, some of the tackle grave yards can produce lovely fish might be worth a try again

Is that not a 'while' size of a lead in your bottom pic?

Did you try float fishing the rag? I dont even bother bottom fishing from rock marks anymore.

Well done nice fish :) float fishing would probably be the answer there alright vary the depths you can also use a weaklink and junk leads when the fish bites you strike if the lead is snagged it gets left behnd but the fish comes up... try 8lb / 10lb line with a couple of overhand knots in it from a 3 way swivel down to the lead obviously you can't belt out a cast with this setup just for dropping in close..... tight lines
