Report:
When I arrived at the Pier I decided to ground bait for mullet with mashed mackerel and also a mangled mackerel
which I had tied to a kids handline. Dropped the handlined mackerel onto the lower lip of the pier which was under 4 ft. of water. While I was setting up the Mullet Rod the handline which was tied to a bollard went mad and I noticed the line very tight! As I looked over the Pier I saw a Conger moving off with the unhooked Mackerel! I had a tug of war with him for a minute before he let go! I set up Conger gear immediately and had him on the first drop! Hit him early to avoid gut hooking and he was on! Had a drop net with me and got a bemused foreign tourist to net it for me! 12 lbs. of Conger muscle!! As I released the Conger the mullet were tearing at the mashed mackerel. I missed several Mullet, either striking too early or late before I hooked a good one! What a scrap! It was on for ages. Unfortunately my Netsman had left and I finally got the Mullet into the Drop Net myself after several attempts! 3 lbs. 6 ozs. of Mullet Magic! 2 more Species for 2009!
