Tue Jul 07, 2009 12:36 pm

People:me and jason

Duration:5pm 10 30pm

Tide:high tide 6pm

Weather:windy northwesterly

Bait:mack,sandeel

Rigs:two hook flappers mini rigs

Results:doggies sand goby?and a BIG surprise :D

Report:went for a short session and got to a new mark about five.set up two rods each one at distance and one searching! not a lot happened for the first hour or two, because of the kids diving into the water beside us  who ever invented those wetsuits has a lot to answer for :twisted:they left after an hour and we were joined by an other angler with his kids who was looking to introduce the kids to the sport,we gave him some small hooks and some mack and soon the kids were into some sand gobys i think! then i got a knock on the distance rod and a doggie was soon brought in.the kids were delighted and touched it even :D soon after jason got his doggie and then things went quiet until i spotted a small bite on my scratching rod lifted it and struck on the next bite, the rod went balistic!! it fought like mad but was on the right rod which is a salmon rod and has good give :D could not see what it was but jason could,MULLET he roared!! my heart was in my mouth but the fish gave up quite quickly and i got it to the slipway and landed it with help from jason :D my first mullet!ever!!! :D :D :D was delighted! but lads,i thought these were shy fish that were fussy what they eat! got this one on a two hook flapper :D size two hooks and a chunk of macky!!! :D :Dhe was deep hooked and too much damage was done so one for the pot! did not fish for a while after that just sat and admired that fish!!jason then went searching for, and got a sand goby, new species for him too  we quit at 10.30 and went home happy, altho i think i was happier than jason :D :D :D

That's as good as a small lotto win on a forgotten ticket. Suggest you coat the mullet in salt for half an hour, wash it off, then bake it in alufoil with fresh dill and lemon balm.. Duh-lishiss.

sorry seanie missed you there,4lb 2oz and ya i was surprised, there was a debate on another thread about which fish is the best scrapper seatrout or mullet.well in my opinion seatrout are the best.that mullet gave me a short battle but gave up quiet quickly, got him in,in under 10 min and landing him took up 5 min :D
