Location: Howth
Bait: Mack and Rag
Rig: 2 hook paternoster
Tide: Incoming, High
RESULTS: 3 pollack, 4 wrasse, 2 dragonets, 1 whiting, 1 maackeral
This is my first report as Im new to the forum. Had a good evening in Howth but I didnt catch anything outstanding.
In my first 4 cast I got two Dragonets which are a new species for me. After that i landed the best fish of the day. A pollack, must have been close to two pounds. Unfortunatly flipped off the rocks before i could get a photo.
After that i caught a few wrasse, 1 was decent. I also got a double hooking off them. Later i got a whiting and a pollack. I had to keep the pollack as it was on its last legs by the time it was unhooked. It was just about big enough to eat.
I switched to feathers after seeing a shoal of mack swimming around but they seemed to be gone by the time i changed. I ended up catching 1 nice one. I got a few more hits on the feathers but didint land them. Then i got another pollack on the feathers.
It was nearly low water when i packed up no more bites. All in all a good day fishing, finished close to midnight.
ps. Im trying to upload photos but doent seem to be working, ill try again

Me and a mate of mine fished there the other of the same pier. Tried some bait fishing but current was too srtong as the tide was goin out and stupid cheap gripper weights wernt working

so just threw on some feathers and got 5 mackeral , kept three for the bait freezer

. Anyone ever experience a mackeral just jumping on a hook cause its silver ?

Happened to my mate just as he was lifting his trace out of the water bang a mackeral hoped on

. But well done of the new species I have never actually seen one of them
