Report:Myself and Big Mick went to Wicklow Harbour to meet up with Al and Jordan and Fishface for a session. We were surprised to see so few there and got ourselves set up keeping some room for the boys later. Met Croppyboy from the site who was kind enough to make me a couple of conger traces for later on, thanks again. Fishing was slow enough for the first few hours with Myself and Mick getting 4 or 5 fish each by the time the lads arrived down from the wee north at about 6 pm. Al brought us lots of huge lug and rag which were so big i had problems getting them on my hooks

. As usual here we were getting the usual mini species ,,,wrasse, pouting, scorpion fish and blennies and i was delighted to finally land my first pollock of '09, all 11 and a half centimetres of him, before managing a more respectably one of 20cms

We all lost a fair amount of tackle to snags so these mini species come at a cost. Fishface arrived and declared that the fish would have no chance with him around and immediately pulled in a nice ballen wrasse, followed by a succession of other species. The threatened heavy rain thankfully never arrived , and we fished on into the dark in our tee shirts. Big Mick headed off to the chipper at 8pm and arrived back with half his considerable body weight in fast food (all for himself of course

). Boy was i sorry at 3am that i didnt order anything

. The 2 lads from up north were also pulling in species galore, and Al came into his own pulling in doggies while we came to a quiet patch. After interrogation he revealed that rag and squid were his bait of choice so i ditched mackeral in favour of rag and squid and pulled in 3 doggies in succession. I lost a nice fish and the rig on the retrieve and Al also was snagged on the way in but landed a very nicely marked shore rockling. All the doggies caught were unusually hard fighters and gave a real scrap . Whiting were also caught at distance . We could see lots of whiting just off the pier in our headlights but they werent biting in close. Al and I saw a big conger below us earlier and put out conger baits. Thanks to croppyboy i had a mack head on a bronze hook, 200 lb line, but unfortunately,(,,,or maybe fortunately for me as i wouldnt have known what to do if i hooked one

,,),,didnt get a touch. We fished on until after 3 am when the bait finally ran out and the light was starting to break. I got 40 winks in the jeep on the way home as Big Mick went on about stock cars and engines and tyres and zzzzzzzzzzz,,,,,,and tarmac racing and zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz,,,,then i woke up outside the house

ps also got hermit crab, spider crab and Jordan pulled in a lobster claw
