i must say denis was extremely lucky to not loose his brand new hst to a angry toperoo. coming to think of it ive never seen a tournament rod bend so much. the fish was quickly emptying denins 7ht mag on full drag and well it doesnt take a genious to realise that tope teeth and a 25lb mono snood would eventually part like peter andre and katie price. after 30sec of letting us know he was there-ping!

snood bitten off. truth be known i was already targetting them with a full dab on a 6/0 with 200lb mono. since 7hts have no ratchet i had to loosen off the drag in case a fish did take it, i looked down to find my rod arching over, ran down reeled in slack line on what was a nearly empty reel, in a desperate attempt to find the end gear, i found it was gone the tope had shreded the shockleader with its tail, note to self use heavier shockleader! back to wjat we came for, i landed a small yet perfectly formed starry which was followed by what i thought was a dog. a timid bite lead to the fish swimming in with me, it wasnt until i saw the lead, which was out of the water at this stage as it was on a pulley rig, shooting up to the right faster than i could reel in that i assumed it was a hound. despite his last stand he was easily landed. after all the photos and not what, i returned to find my tope rod slack again, once again 200lb mono was no match for the toperoo, all i got back was my lead, swivel and a small bit of line. very fustrating session, then again we didnt really come prepared, the rigs we made on the beach where shambolic and badly tied. we will return on saturday and target the mofos.
