Ballyhornan 13/06/2009

Sun Jun 14, 2009 6:04 pm

People:Me and Shannon

Duration:12pm to 3:30pm

Tide:Incoming

Weather:sunny then fog

Bait:Lug/sandeels/Macks

Rigs:3 hook flappers/Feathers

Results:me 1 sandeel Shannon 2 pollack 2 coalies

Report:Headed to ballyhornan and arrived about 11am and dug some lug on the beach before we headed round to the mark.Arrived at the mark and see a few other guys already fishing and they where catch some small pollack so things were looking good.So i set shannon spinning rod up with feathers so she could get fishing and that would give me time to set up both my rods, then i heard daddy i have a fish and true enough she landed a small pollack just under a pound. So finally i had both my rods set up and in the water, then she said daddy daddy help me i turned around and her rod was bent over and she was struggling to hold on to it,so i grabbed her and held on and thought to myself she has a full set of macks here, but no after about 5 mins of her struggling she landed a coalie of 2 1/2 pound the smile on her face was precious as its only the 2nd time she has come out fishing with me.Then for about 40 mins it was all quiet(besides shannon reminding me that she had caught 2 fish and i had nothing).I couldn't even get a nibble,so i decided it was coffee time and just as i was pouring the coffee i here daddy i have another fish i looked up to see the rod doubled over again and she was struggling then she said its gone but the rod was doubled over still the fish went straight for the kelp so i took the rod and after a few mins i managed to free it and there it was a nice pollack just under 3lb,so for the next 30 mins i had to listen to her gloating that she had caught fish and i had nothing, just then i noticed a small knock on 1 of my rods and hooked up while reeling i said thats it shannon im going to start getting fish then she laughed ha ha its only a small 1 (a Sandeel). So with that i rebaited and got staright back in,then her rod went again and doubled again with her landing her 2nd coalie at just over 2lb.Then it went quiet and i decided it was to dangerous as the swell was just to rough with huge rogue waves were starting to appear.
Took a few photo's but i am still trying to work out this camera and i got the date wrong, hopefully the pictures will be better for future reports.

Paddy

Thanks contender,That place can throw up some nice sized fish plenty of deep water in some places.

Cheers minty,That coastline can be tricky in places indeed, but the right places can throw up some nice fish.If you mean the main sandy beach mate then yes its a good bit on round the coast towards a place called St Patricks well but not that far round,as the rocks a near St Patricks well can be very dangerous.

Thanks mate,They did put up a good fight hence why i held on to her i didn't want her heading towards the kelp like the fish were
