Report:
Hi All,
Sorry for the delay in posting but it was really busy weekend and week after. I was on Dingle Peninsula (most-west part), last weekend. I was trying float fishing from shore, first time ever. Around 4 meters of water and weed forest below. One prawn on a hook and a bit of patience. Nice stuff – it was really enjoyable.
Now question. Pictures below shows two different colouration. Are these wrasses different colours because they male and female or are they different species of wrasse?

Ballan Wrasse come in a multitude of colours depending on the ground and kelp they are caught in. I've even caught them green in colour

nice one tom :D :D you gotta love the cooked peeled prawns, a cheap but very effective wrasse bait that's often underestimated   not any good for long distance casting, but for the float at short range deadly     . as for the ballan wrasse, like donal said. you can catch 10 in a session and they'll be 10 different colours. i remember when we first started out and thought they were all different fish           .

Hey Guys,
Thanks for your comments and thanks for the info about wrasse colours.

@Mus, I was fishing the mark since and I really love it. Sometimes there are plenty of anglers there so I’m always wondering whether one of them is you :) So, sure – give me a shout and we can setup for a session.

Cheers!

Hey, I fact I got one more question about wrasse colours. Do you mean that any individual fish got different colours or it just can change it's colours pretty quickly to adopt to environment?
Thanks!

It looks like you's had a good days fishing for the wrasse down in the Dingle Peninsula. I am a regular visitor to that area and the last time I was down I fished for them too.
I and the company I was with managed to catch some very nice fish, weighing between 3lb - the biggest of approx, 5lb which I caught.
The fight it gave was amazing! It dived into the weed and I had to hold it there for a while until it decided to come out.
I was using live crabs as bait and they went mad for them, as wrasse do.
The only problem I had was getting down to the place where you have to go and fish, I don't know where you where but if it was the same place then you will know exactly what I mean.
I am going down to Dingle again in a couple of weeks time hopefully and intend on going fishing for them again, I will let you's know how I get on.
