currean achill tues 2nd june

Wed Jun 03, 2009 3:47 pm

People:jason and me

Duration:4pm-11pm

Tide:high 1.15pm

Weather:beautiful

Bait:feathers,german sprats,mixed shads and eels

Rigs:single hook trace

Results:mack,pollock, ballen wrasse?

Report:bought a shimano cardiff reel from seanie35 on the site and had to try it out :D so we hit the flags on the way down to currean to try for mack and pollock,we hit the mark at four with the tide well out but this is a deep water mark so it fishes at all stages of the tide, popped out one rod at distance with the hope of a ray or huss, and went roving with the spinning rods for mack, over the next few hours the mack were being caught but not in any great numbers, very hit and miss :( we were getting the odd small pollock as well so we were happy enough :D :D another guy called bernie set up near us and straight away started to get pollock on small silver feathers so we switched over to them as well ! result!! :D pollock seemed to love them and a steady stream of 1lb pollock were being landed,a quick photo and they were back in the water with us hoping for there mammy or daddy, we took a break and the three of us had a feed of sausages and beans and macky :D :D portable gas cooker!best buy ever :D :D bernie left soon after that and i moved over to the spot he was fishing and put on a german sprat, straight away i was into better pollock up to three lb :D :D jason joined me and lost a huge pollock that we saw before he power dived and snapped the line :( he was well into double figures!!at this stage the tide was well in and as it was dusk the big boys came out to play,i caught a nice pollock of about 5lb and jason had one about the same size a few minutes later!we were still catching the odd mack as well so it was all go,i had put a small mini rig out and i noticed a small bite and brought in a small ballen wrasse?i think? by eleven i had had about twelve pollock and jason the same, with about twenty mack between us :D :D the mack and four of the bigger pollock came home for breakfast, dinner and tea!by the way seanie, brilliant reel and in excellent condition!thanks mate!!

Well done lads, looks like you had a great days fishing there. That little Wrasse looks like a Rock Cook Wrasse alright and as Eric rightly pointed out, its a fish you don't often see caught. Good work :D
