Fri May 29, 2009 7:55 am

People:Me and club

Date : 24/05/2009

Venue:White rocks outside Glenarm

Duration: 19:00 – 24.00

Tide:high water approx 23:00

Weather: Sunshine light wind

Bait: Rag, Mack, Bluey Artificials

Rigs:Spinning lures, Float, clipped down pulley

Results:42 cm Pollack and 2 lsd’s

Report: arrived at the rocks about 18:00 to be surprised at how rugged and difficult to move on they are. This is one mark I wouldn’t recommend fishing alone on, especially into darkness as you could easily disappear into a crevasse and get injured or unable to get out on your own.

Before arriving as I expected wrasse I stopped at the rocks at Ballygally to try and pick up some hardback crab but after 45 minutes with 2 the size of 10p piece I gave up.

Got set up on the mark and at 19:00 started with the float, got some touches on the 2 crabs and rag fished close but nothing connected. Around 21:00 I switched to spinning and was quickly rewarded with the 42 cm Pollack, got a few other touches spinning but didn’t connect. Unfortunately i was unable to get a picture as the batteries on the camera had died.

As the light fell switched to the rough ground beachcaster and SLOSH 30 alternating mackerel and bluey, Both Dogfish came to bluey.

Quit fishing at 11.30 to allow plenty of time to pack up and move carefully over the rocks. From what i could tell the rest of the club had a similar bag with upto 5 dogs however i don’t know what others caught at different venues but a lot better than ballyholme the previous fortnight.

I lost a float and weight down the crevices before we even started, as i reached for the hook swivel and the line slipped out of my hand to be followed by the lid of my bait bucket - no chance of recovery.

I hope to go to Fahan and am planning to go. gave the wife 3 weeks notice not to be working that day, so should be ok. Hope to get my first ray.
