Report: mediteranean like conditions greeted us for the third leg of our master angler series on clones beach. judging by condtions it would seem the better casters would dominate with dogs out over the bank. well quite frankly that turnt out to be a load of- at 6pm sharp the match kicked off, i myself went out with three sandeels, clipped and flemed them out as far as i could, out on top of the bank. for the most part it seemed that was the general consensus. bootsie kavanagh dropped what seemed like a dog on his first and i was to do the same, with my kamasan size 2 match bending out, enough of that, i through the trace away and took out another with sakuma manta size 4's instead. robbie terry to the next of me took a nice dab on his first, but the rest of the beach remained quite. i kept up with the distance plan of action for another 3 casts but when robbie brought in another dab, i followed suit and lobbed three hook flapper out about 50yards. no sooner had i done this, alby had brought a dog in from distance, maybe they we're moving in? i decided to stick and stay and added 4 flats to my card in three casts, only one counter though. after another dog came in, i went back out with two lug tipped with mack and sandeel and went on a flounder walk hopefully giving the dogfish a chance to find the bait. boycie on the end peg had sneakely been catching quite a few fish and was firmly in pole position, with 5 counters.mark sinnot was in close second with a few dogs, i came back and reeled in untouched baits, oh dear!
i decided to stick with the dogs and this proved to be my downfall, an hour and a half later i finally added a dog, but with two hours to go i was well off the pace with boycie leading with an apparent 13 fish. i once again took out the fixed spool, loaded a flapper with worm baits and went on a serious flattie hunt, sure enough i began to hit fish, bringing in a dab in every cast, lightly dispersed with a few whiting. things were on the up, slowly but surely, i began to fill the card up nicely, still i was convinced i was only fighting a loosing battle for a top five finish. during the last hour i hit a few nice doubles, including one of a 30cm smoothie and 25cm dab, handy stuff. lines up i had amased a total of 19 fish, which wasnt to bad considering i got 14 of the in the last hour and a half. boycie and mark we're both up there, but no one was sure who had won? final results are as follows..............
