Sth Beach Arklow Sat 12th Mar

Postby dtsacs » Sun Mar 13, 2005 10:04 pm

3 of us fished the Sth. Beach Arklow from 2000hrs to 0100hrs Saturday night/Sunday morning. We arrived early and got talking to some lads that had been fishing during the day, catches were small with undersized Whiting and Dabs the order of the day.
The weather forecast from the previous couple of days had been warning of high N/NE winds coupled with freezing sleet, thankfully they had got it wrong as it was a beautiful evening, clear skies and a gentle breeze coming from behind us (W/NW).
It started to get dark around 1900hrs so we set up our gear ready for the off hoping the darkness and incoming tide would bring in the fish. It started off with an undersized Whiting around 10 mins after the off, went quite for around half an hour before the Doggies came in force. Whitin minutes of the baits been cast out the rods were dancing to the beat of Dogfish. Sandeel tipped with Squid or Mackeral seemed to be the bait in favour, Ragworm and Peeler Crab were being ingored. A good nights fishing was had by all with a good number of Doggies combined with Whiting and Dabs being caught.
