Report: Tried Sorrento rocks in the hope that the Mackies might be in but no joy. I tumbled 3 times in the session. We decided to check it out before bringing all the gear down. As you walk off the road there’s a steep grassy hill. This and gripless shoes are not a match made in heaven. I slipped the length of the hill on my hole! Ended up soaked. Having decided to stay we went back for the gear. I found a better paid of shoes in the car (or so I thought) and put them on only to slip again and fall on the other side of my hole just to complete the soddenness for the evening.
Fishing was pretty quiet. We both tried a bit of spinning to no avail. The Pollack, Whiting & Dab were small. Stephen’s LSD was an ok size.
On the last cast I saw a sizeable knock on my rod. It’s a fairly sturdy 12 ft beach caster so I knew it was a half decent fish. I saw another big knock and started to reel to see what was there. I felt a big pull on the line and this is where tumble no. 3 happened. I momentarily removed my brain and left it on the rocks beside me and in the pitch black literally just stepped off the rocks into a 4ft drop onto more rocks. I was concentrating on the fish too much. No damage done apart from a bruised ego. I was lucky mind; a fall on those rocks could be nasty. The fish was still there and a fierce reel in brought in easily my biggest Doggie to date. No photos but he was a big fella. So it was worth it!
At the end I was heading to repatriate the left over worms and was heading down the rocks to do so and Stephen beckoned me back. It was touching to see the amount of concern he had for himself. ‘Don’t go down there in the dark’ he says ‘I’m not going after you if you fall!’
Given the way the rest of the night had gone he was probably right.
Good session and nice selection of fish caught so I squelched home a happy angler.
All fish went back.

Did you ever consider golf?
At least you got a few fish - but I suggest you get yourself a pair of boots with good grip for the next time

I normally bring my boots or a good pair of shoes for Sorrento, but I had my waders in the car and so just threw on the 1st pair of shoes I came accross to drive. Once we decided upon Sorrento it was the shoes or the waders. No way I was going to stand on Sorrento rocks, 20 feet above the sea like a loon in a pair of waders! I'd rather tumble three times and nearly brain myself on the rocks than do that! Mind you, no pair of waders however good, would have helped my when I stepped off the rocks in the dark.

Hi Folks. I'm new to the site here. Fished the rocks at Sorrento (a.k.a Dillon's Park) loads of times, when I was a kid back in the 1980s, (had many a tumble on the rocks as well!!

). I haven't fished there in a few years though. I always found it great for large Wrasse, Pollack and Dogfish. It was/is one of those places that you feel you are going to catch fish, if the tide is in, and you are using good bait. It was always a killer on tackle, though. I must have lost a fortune down there in spinners, weights, hooks etc., over the years.
