hi mike

when you get to the pier instead of going down to the pier go stright ahead and follow the road, you will know when you get there, that area is spectacular!and man does it look fishy!!

The flags to the right of the back strand road used to be great for medium pollock, but it's been very disappointing since the drift net ban. The nets are now being sunk to the bottom for pollock (100 euro a box I hear) and Kilcummin head area is pretty well cleaned out. If you drive on to the end of the back strand road, you can walk along the beach to the mouth of the Lacken Bay stream at low tide. Sea trout were shoaling in numbers off there the week before last, and its also a good spot for flats. Care needed though, undercurrents can be vicious.

Dont give up too soon! The Flags always fished better for pollock from mid-August on anyway, but there's plenty of good wrasse around all the time (they like limpets, which is handy). My favourite spot is about halfway along to the head where there's a big table shaped boulder chucked up on the ledge. Have a look at low tide first - it can be a graveyard for lures, vicious ledges out there where the fish hide. Try the float, it works well for me.
