Sorrento Point 3rd & 4th May

Rigs: Pulley (3/0), 2 hook flapper (2/0), 3 hook flapper, 2 hook distance rig, feathers

Results: Me, Whiting, Dab, LSD (Sun) Whiting (Mon), Stephen blank (Sun) Whiting (Mon)

Report: Two unusal sessions at this mark. What a great spot when the weather is good. How it beats the hell out of Whiterock at 10pm in February in the snow! On Sun we were supposed to take a boat out from Bulloch but they were closed due to the wind. Straight out to Dublin Bay from Bulloch was windy and quite choppy. Around the corner a Colimore and Sorrento it was like a mill pond. Amazing. Anyway, there were two groups below us at Sorrento when we arrived. 3 left fairly shortly after we arrived having caught nothing. Two below left some time later having blanked. On guy was further down and another arrived after us to fish near him, they all blanked. (All of these guys were either spinning or using feathers). Myself & Stephen had two rods and used feathers on one and baited the other. Stephen blanked but I caught a whiting & Dab on one cast and a big doggie on a light rod which I was holding when he took the bait. He was great fun. The reason I say unual is because I though all three of these species were night feeders. Is it unusual to catch dabs, whiting & LSDs in daylight??

Last night we went back at high tide. Any time we’ve been there before it’s been busy. Usually b*****d pin whiting, but at least getting bites. Last night, with 4 rods out we saw no action at all. Unbeknownst to us both, we caught whiting, but only realised we had a fish once it was out of the water. Stephen caught 1 & I caught 2. 3 fish in 3 hours. Brutal. Still it’s nights like this that make the busy ones all the better, or something!

Anyone any thoughts on why a usually good mark would suddenly dry up? I should say, not long before it got dark two seals swam past very close to shore. Would that be a factor? They didn’t hang about and we were casting well over them. Also, the current was very strong dragging everything to the right.

unlucky man. sometimes a mark can just go dead. i would'nt think that 2 seals would make a difference but. in the summer we have 2 that sit on the surface right beside us at one particular mark. we even feed them the odd fish and still have no problem catching fish, even with them no more than 10 feet from us. there really are too many factors to take into consideration as to why a mark dies off just fickle fishies i guess

Thanks Al, I figured it wasn't the seals. It's amazing how you can go off a mark if it's not producing fish, where it previously did, and yet if you're say, fishing a new mark you're more likely to stick it out and not mind a blank quite as much.

Sorrento and Dalkey Sound always fish best on the first quarter of the flood tide.Try it... the local club swear by it.
I usually try to be there for the last of the ebb and first quarter of flood.
