Report:Arrived at the harbour at 4pm to find it fairly empty, but 7 or 8 lads arrived soon after me. I set up down the end near a father and 2 kids outfit. Fired out the 3 hook flapper baited with rag and mack about 80 yds and while I was setting up the spinning rod I got a good tug on the first rod. Reeled it in and found a nice grey gurnard on the end of the line

,, happy days, new species and all that. I had come here hoping that some of dfella25's luck would rub off on me after reading about his 37cm wrasse last week, well done

, and although they werent that big ,I did get my target species with a succession of wrasse coming in all evening. In the first 2 hrs, I had 4 fish, grey gurnard, shore rockling, ballan wrasse and corkwing wrasse making it 4 new species to add to the list. Caught a small flounder some time later then the fishing died off and i moved up near the lighthouse but the breeze would cut you in two

, so i stayed in the shelter of the wall. The wind seemed to be coming from the northeast, which was the opposite of the southwesterly that was forecast on any sites I looked up

. I started to chat with a smiley bloke that was fishing beside me but soon copped on that he hadnt much english when he just kept nodding at me. I had to use sign language to explain how i was losing my rigs. He seemed surprised to see me dropping my bait just off the edge of the pier but suddenly the fish started feeding again and i was getting wrasse again and he understood what i was up to

.I got another grey gurnard at distance and a shore rockling in close. Fishface arrived at 7-30pm and stayed till 9pm, he caught a blenny to save his blank after i gave him 2 rag and some squid (he forgot his bait

).He kept saying that he wasnt really fishing, just dropped down for a chat

. Does it count when you catch on other peoples bait

Then the whiting came and after 6 x whiting and nothing else i decided to head for home. A very enjoyable day out and 4 new species to add to the list, 3 of them christening my new spinning rod, shakespeare salt spin 10'.
