East Cork Beach, 28/04/2009

Wed Apr 29, 2009 12:43 pm

People: me, petekd, Nik, tazdogue

Duration: 20:45-23:45 for me and Pete, the others turn up at around 10 and no idea when they left

Tide: HW 8.30ish

Weather: mild and calm

Bait: razor, mack, lug, crab, sandeel

Rigs: the usual assortment of 3 hook flappers and pulleys etc

Results: 1 flounder to Pete, Nik 1 Bass that I know of

Report: Headed out for a birthday fish, but no presents for me on the beach. One good knock and that was it for me. Pete into a flounder first cast and then nothing more after that.

Nik and tazdogue then arrived around 10. Nik was well prepared with his chair, his brandy filled hip flask and some peeler crab that his wife had bought him - what a woman she is (take note please Lynda!!).
So with his first cast out with the crab he lands himself a nice bass which, conveniently, had pretty much hooked and beached itself while he was messing with his other rod, meaning he just had to reel in the slack line. Never seen a man so delighted with a fish, it's been a while without a bass for him and he wasn't coming off too good on the old shore reports recently, but he's back :D

We left before 12 with Pete flagging what with all his early starts and the lads stayed on to hopefully more fish?

Good to meet tazdogue and have another face out on the beach with us and hope to see him out again.

unlucky on the birthday fish.

if the lads were proper friends they'd have left you reel in the flounder and Bass, just as a wee birthday treat :D :D .

was their any bit of surf there last night? i was in garretstown and it was like a pond. i blanked also but thats nothing new  .

Hard luck on the lack of a birthday fish.
Well done to Nik on his bass.
I guess it must have been very calm last night, not really conducive to bass fishing from the beach, although guessing what beach you were on I suppose there may have been a bit of a surf.

Nothing after ye left Lee. We stayed till about 1 and then headed off, i drove but Nik flew home on air from his bass. A good night none the less.
Well done Nik, hopefully the first of many and i think the "Queen Bee" will have to get all the bait from now on.
Lee and Pete - it was great to finally meet you both, 2 absolute gentlemen.
Below is a picture of Nik with his bass.

it was the very beach where you did the same as Nik and turned up late and caught a bass early  - it's going to be my new ploy for that beach.

no, not much surf at all, little bit at top of tide, but more caused by geographical conditions. Looked good for flounder, but not much happening....

just noticed i always use a capital B for Bass and small f for flounder?? Is this psychologically significant? I love catching both of them and wouldn't necessarily rank a Bass above a flounder, no idea why I do it....theories anyone?

That's were I reckoned you were alright - the others would have been dead flat last night.

There is something built into the forum that whenever you type the word bass it is always always displayed with an upper case B regardless of whether you use capitals or not.

does it work for bonefish?

Bass, bass,BASS,bASS,BaSs (these were typed upper and lower case in different ways)
ok so Frank is right, they appear in the editor OK, but the site displays them. So that makes Red's post make sense now  and I am not crazy, phew....

i just noticed that they were both spelt Bass now. i was reading thescotsmans post over and over tryin to see what he meant.
i could have sworn i saw something a while back about spelling it with a b instead of B. it might have changed since then or i saw it elsewhere.

theres a slight flaw with it tho,
what if someone was writing-
i enjoyed a few cans of bass when i got home from a good evenings fishing
OR
i was listening to drum and bass on the ipod when i noticed a good knock on the rod
