Three Species, Two days and One Mark In The Life Of

Sun Apr 26, 2009 9:07 am

PEOPLE: Me and the Boyster on Friday and the Hankster on Saturday:

TIME: Friday 5pm till 9pm and Saturday 1pm till 5pm:

TIDE: Friday rising and Saturday dropping:

WEATHER: Super!:

BAIT: Rag:

RIGS: 1 hook mini rig and three hook flapper 2 up 1 down:

RESULTS: Tompot Blenny (Me Thinks?) Corkwing Wrasse and Ballen Wrasse:

After a brief appearance in court on Friday (my own fault  ) and a fine of €390 I headed down to Wicklow pier in search of a Wrasse. Stopped off to pick up Boycie who laughed his ass off at my misfortune all the way down. When we arrived the weather was beautiful. I had bought a very light spinning rod and a small Shimano reel and lined it with very very light line. I had stopped of at Henry's to try and explain what I was looking for and he sorted me out. Can't remember the name of the reel but it's my new best friend now!!! A quick set up and we were straight into the fish. Lost a couple of rigs but had great craic on the light gear. My phones battery went so I got no photo's and was gutted. However I got a call from the misses asking would I meet my sister half way to Wexford the next day as she wanted to take the baby over night. I happily obliged!

So on Saturday I picked up Hank and headed back to Wicklow. Met the sis (cost me a dinner!) and I was back to the pier. The fishing was much slower and I never picked up the Corkwing for a pic. I did get a lesson from a lad who told me I needed to be casting out to catch the fish. He was laughing as I kept dropping my rig just over the side while he fired his rod out.

I did manage a Tompot Blenny though so it made up for the missing pic of the Corkwing.

I had an absolute ball using the light gear and trying to strike when they were biting. Loads of missed bites and a few rigs lost but well worth the sport. I wonder would people think of me as a bad father if I had an 8 week old baby on the pier beside me today
